24th October 2017 “The Coach Roads to Brighton”

Geoff Hewlett

Many roads from London to the south coast follow routes established in the days of travel by horse-drawn coaches. This is the story of the roads between London and Brighton from the mid eighteenth  century to the end of the coaching era in the 1840’s. The coachmen who drove on them, accidents, robberies, ghosts and gallows and many incidents which give a human face to the story of the Brighton roads in the coaching era.
